Mold spores can be very dangerous to you and your family, so do not let that mold go untreated any longer.

There are a few tips here on where to look for that mold. Clearly, any were that moisture remains in the air for extended periods of time is a good starting point. Check near bathrooms, facets, and outside faucets as well. Make sure that water is draining under your home (if you have a pier and beam foundation) as this can lead to wood rot/ molding of your floor boards. Check your AC over flow pan. This is often over looked and often a source of mold spores. Most AC units now have a PVC pipe sticking up near the drain pan. This allows you to dump a cup full of bleach down the drain every so often to reduce the impacts of mold and dust build up. Mold can also be a serious issue in garages.

Roofing Installation

Roofing InstalltionLet’s face it, this summer was notorious for awful weather. Where I live in Texas, we had near a record year when it came to tornado’s. In fact, although no tornado’s touched down near my home, we had several days this summer of straight line winds which damaged quite a few homes… mine included.

Luckily, insurance picked up the cost for most folks, but what if you don’t have insurance and your roof needs to be replaced? Worse, what if you thought storm damage was covered on your policy but some little loop hole in the wording didn’t cover “natural disasters.” While thinking about replacing your roof can be overwhelming, if you play the market correctly, you can get out much cheaper than you may think.

I recently had to replace a roof at my home. I wanted to do a little experiment to see how wildly fluctuating different roofing companies could be. I made the calls and set up 3 free inspections of my roof. The first guy was there for all of 5 minutes, said the roof was in rough shape and he would recommend a complete replacement. $3500 was the cost.
The next two guys who arrived came to the same conclusion but said that the roof could be done for $2200 and $2800 repectivley. Can you believe that? Same roof, different professionals and the costs differences were over $1000. (Keep in mind, all roofing companies where is good standing with the BBB, Bonded and Insured…. essentially all good contractors)
