Custom Closets at Your Fingertips

For some reason, when contractors build homes, it almost seems like the closet was an afterthought.  Very rarely do you run across a closet that truly impressed you, but this a little effort, you can have the closet that stands out among the rest.

What You’ll Need

There are several supplies that you will want to make sure you have before you start this project.

At minimum:

    • Drill
    • Tape measure
    • Circular saw
    • Screw driver
    • Level
    • Jig saw
    • Custom closet system
    • Wall anchors
    • Wood putty


There are several options available to you when it comes to closet kits.  Wood and laminate are popular choices but are more expensive and require are higher skill level versus a traditional wire system. These are the three standard options offered to you through most home improvement stores.  While you can use these kits and get a nicely updated space, the 4th option may be what you are actually looking for.

Hiring a Custom Closet Contractor

If you have specific needs and designs in mind, hiring a contractor may be the best bet for you.  These contractors are skilled at created the space you need utilizing every inch your closet has to offer.  While this is a slightly more expensive option, you can rest easy knowing that you will have the exact closet that your mind has been dreaming about.

Contractor Tips

Not all contractors are created equal.  Be sure to find a contractor who has experience in closet design.  It would be helpful to hire a closet contractor who has a designer on staff to work with you before the closet is installed. Check for references, and check the Better Business Bureau for any complaints.  Doing your research now, could save you thousands down the road.
